I take comfort in knowing the soldiers on the ground are in good spirits. When all else is lost, believing in the cause is as powerful a weapon as anything from the best stocked arsenal. So that is a good thing.
I say, why roll the dice? Why not flood the country with manpower? It just makes no military sense.
Numbers are crucial when in a fight on the streets and they are no less important on the battlefield. Transformation? The RMA? (Revolution in Military Affairs) Both good things - but the needs on the ground is a superceding intervening force. An adjustment could be all that is between a dramatic tip in the balance and the steady drip of mounting casualties
I certainly hope that the American experience in Iraq succeeds, but just cannot see it happening without a u-turn on the numbers argument.
